El Sherbini makes it 20 months at #1

Egyptian World Champion Nour El Sherbini marks a 20th successive month at World #1 in PSA Women’s World Rankings.

The 22-year-old from Alexandria – who will be aiming to win a third consecutive World Championship title Manchester later this month – defeated World #2 Raneem El Welily in the final of the Hong Kong Open last month to extend her lead over her compatriot at the top of the rankings.

France’s Camille Serme stays at #3, marginally ahead of Laura Massaro, while 2016 Hong Kong Open champion Nouran Gohar completes an unchanged top five.

The rest of the top 10 is also unchanged, with eight-time World Champion Nicol David staying at #6, England’s Sarah-Jane Perry at #7, Egypt’s Nour El Tayeb at #8, New Zealand’s Joelle King at #9 and Alison Waters at #10.

Elsewhere, USA’s Olivia Blatchford is on the rise to a career-high #12 ranking, swapping places with Emily Whitlock.

After becoming the first ever female Welsh player to reach a World Series quarter-final last month in Hong Kong, Tesni Evans is rewarded with a two-place increase to a career-best #14 ranking, overtaking India’s Joshna Chinappa, who drops to #15.
